  6. --the loss of visible detail of 
  7. very distant objects because of 
  8. limitations of visual acuity--
  9. and aerial perspective--the 
  10. tendency of distant objects to 
  11. become tinged with blue 
  12. because of impurities in the 
  13. atmosphere. Although paintings 
  14. may gain in realism by taking 
  15. these factors into account, no 
  16. one to my knowledge has ever 
  17. shown experimentally that 
  18. detail perspective and aerial 
  19. perspective, in isolation, affect 
  20. distance perception.
